Why Singleton?
Jemena Gas Networks (NSW) Ltd has not announced a major extension of the Gas network for ten years due to the viability of such projects. Jemena Gas Networks (NSW) Ltd is piloting a new approach to expansion, which if successful, will provide a platform the extend natural gas not only within Singleton but other areas in NSW where expansion is viable.
Out of all the potential locations in NSW, Singleton was chosen as the Pilot area as Natural Gas is already at the town gate (in Waddells Lane), cheaper laying costs and the support of Singleton Council.
Why is my property outside the Pilot area?
We chose the area that is close to the existing Gas mains and to minimise construction costs (including avoiding main roads and footpaths). We selected around 800 dwellings so that we gain enough data to know whether the new approach we are undertaking works. If the pilot is successful and extending the network is viable, we would then investigate extending the network into other areas of the Singleton township. No promises here in terms of extending the network or the offer to connect, but we would like everyone to connect and use to Natural Gas. That’s why we are performing the pilot.
